Our Story

Hi! My name is Shaiv, and I started climbing in Berlin, Germany in 2021 and fell in love with it pretty much immediately. Soon I was going bouldering 3-4 days a week. Every time I came back to Mumbai I missed it – we had great community training walls and a booming community, but nothing at the scale and size that you see anywhere overseas, or even in other cities in India.

Over the next 3 years, I travelled extensively and visited climbing gyms in over 10 countries to try and learn what I could from all of them. The first thing I did when I came back was to build a climbing wall at home. The rest is history – I moved back to Mumbai, found this gorgeous building, distilled all that I had learned over the years, and built The Indian Bouldering Company.

After 25 years searching, I found what I loved to do most, and I’ve made it my mission to share this beautiful sport with as many people as I can. As much as I love Mumbai, it sorely lacked any third spaces that weren’t eateries. In addition to this, the culture of exclusivity has unfortunately pervaded most spaces in the city. Climbing is the exact opposite – the climbing community worldwide is one of the most inviting and warm. It welcomes everyone regardless of creed, colour and conviction, and that’s what I loved.
